INTERNAL OPERATIONS COMMITTEE '`' Costa County September 23, 1991 �..� DATE: SUBJECT: REPORT ON MEETING WITH CHILD CARE TASK FORCE SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION RECOMMENDATIONS: 1 . Accept this report from the Internal Operations Committee on the status of planning for meeting the child care needs in Contra Costa County. 2 . Add a seat to the Child Care Task Force for a member of the Special Education Local Plan Area ( SELPA) operated out of the County Office of Education because of the close relationship which should exist between the SELPA, the County and Child Care Providers and parents in order to make efficient and appropriate use of the child care resources which are available to assist the children in this County. BACKGROUND: The Board of Supervisors has appointed a Child Care Task Force to develop priorities for the expenditure of the new federal child care dollars which are being made available this year. The plan for the expenditure of these funds was forwarded to the State Department of Education by August 28, 1991. The Task Force is now continuing to monitor the implementation of those federal dollars in the County, implementing State legislation and is gathering data on the child care activities which are being undertaken by the County and cities as well as private sector in the County. CC: ATTESTED October 1, 1991 County Administrator PHIL BATCHELOR,CLERK OF THE BOARD OF Social Services Director SUPERVIS AND COUNTY ADMINISTRATOR Community Services Director Child Care Task Force (Via CAO) M382 (10/88) BY DEPUTY T .O. -8 At the Task Force' s meeting on September 23, 1991, the Task Force heard a presentation from the Director of the SELPA, which represents and coordinated special education activities in all school districts in the County except for the Richmond and Mt. Diablo Unified School Districts. The Task Force also received and will be reviewing an update of the 1985 Child Care Plan which was presented to the Board of Supervisors. The Task Force will present this updated Plan to the Board upon completion of their review. The Task Force is also reviewing legislation which will implement the new federal .child care funds in the County. This legislation will provide the encouragement and opportunity for the County to prepare not only an assessment of the child care needs in the County, but also a mechanism for beginning to meet those needs. Our Committee will continue to make regular reports to the Board of Supervisors following each such meeting.
