SUBJECT: - — ---- -- - - - -- -----. -- CONSIDER ESTABLISHING A RECYCLING .CENTER AT .BYRON BOYS RANCH SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION(S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION RECOMMENDED ACTION: Refer to the Finance Committee and the Environmental Affairs Committee the concept of setting up a recycling center at Byron Boys Ranch. Also refer to the Probation Department and Community Development Department to analyze potential costs' and revenues . BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The idea of establishing a recycling center and buy-back center has several appealing features . The need for such centers in East County is great. Additionally, the "hands-on" job- training experience for the youth at the ranch would be extremely beneficial. The Boys Ranch School could adapt many parts of the curricula to this venture - from science and conservation,. to mathematics and economics. NORCAL already has a buy-back and wood waste center in the Brentwood area and has an LUP for a wood-chipping facility near Byron. They have indicated a keen interest in working with the Boys Ranch on such a* project. They seem prepared to supply the needed equipment and some of the staffing.
