HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 02261991 - S.4 S. y THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA Adopted this Order on February 26 , 1991 by the following vote: AYES: Supervisors Fanden, Schroder, McPeak, Torlakson, Powers NOES: None ABSENT: None ABSTAIN: None ------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------ SUBJECT: Richmond Unified School District Request for Assistance Henry Clark, General Manager, Contra Costa Employees Association Local 1, appeared before the Board and commented on the efforts of his organization and the Richmond Unified School District administration, teachers and parents, working together with Assemblyman Campbell, to obtain a loan from the State to assist the District in its current financial crisis. He urged the Board to adopt a resolution supporting those efforts. Mr. Clark noted that in the event the School District in unable to meet its payroll, many of the employees could be forced to seek assistance from the County. Supervisor Tom Powers commented on the potential impact on the County' s Social Services Department if the Richmond School District is unable to pay its employees, and requested that the Department take steps to provide information and assistance to those who may be affected. He advised that he has been in contact with County staff and District officials relative to an advance of property tax revenues and noted that some confusion exists relative to this issue. After discussion by Board members, IT IS BY THE BOARD ORDERED that the Social Services Director is DIRECTED to take whatever actions necessary to provide information and assistance to the employees of the Richmond Unified School District. The County Administrator was requested to place the proposed resolution supporting the State loan to the District on the March 5 , 1991 agenda for Board consideration. In conjunction with the above, later on in the day the County Administrator advised that an advance of property tax revenue would be available to the Richmond Unified School District to enable them to meet their payroll.
