DATE: Accept Grant Award #29-461 from the Department of an
Services (Office of Substance Abuse Prevention) for the "Partner-
ship for a Drug Free Contra Costa" Project
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION(S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
I. RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Accept, on behalf of the County, Grant Award #29-461 from the U.S.
Department of Health and Human Services (Office of Substance Abuse
Prevention) for funding in the amount of $663,436 for the period
September 30, 1990 through December 31, 1991, to implement the
Contra Costa Drug and Alcohol Action Plan (Partnership for a Drug
Free Contra Costa Project) .
II. FINANCIAL IMPACT:
Acceptance of Grant Award #29-461 will result in $663 , 436 of
Federal monies for first-year funding for the implementation of the
Contra Costa Drug and Alcohol Action Plan (Partnership for a Drug
Free Contra Costa Project) . Subject to availability of funds and
satisfactory progress, the Grant Award recommends second, third,
fourth and fifth-year funding of $500, 000 per year.
No County funding is required.
III . REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATIONS/BACKGROUND:
On May 22, 1990, the Board approved submission of an application to
the U. S. Department of Health and Human Services (Office of
Substance Abuse Prevention) requesting federal funding for the
purpose of implementing the Contra Costa County Drug and Alcohol
Action Plan (Partnership for a Drug-Free Contra Costa) . The
Department has been notified that $663,436 for the period September
30, 1990 through December 31, 1991 has been awarded and, subject to
availability of federal funds and satisfactory progress by the
project, the Grant Award recommends funding of $500, 000 per year
for a second, third, fourth and fifth-year.
Four certified copies of the Board Order authorizing acceptance of
the Grant Award should be returned to the Contracts and Grants Unit
for submission to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
