HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 12031991 - 1.29 IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the Matter of Congratulating ) Nora Harlow ) Resolution No.: 91/765 The Orinda Association ) Volunteer of the Year, 1991 } WHEREAS Nora Harlow has been named one of The Orinda Association's Volunteers of the Year in recognition of her tireless efforts to improve the environment, land and streetscapes of Orinda, to ensure careful longrange urban planning and to enhance the continued vital role of. The Orinda Association in Orinda's civic life; and WHEREAS Nora Harlow contributed to the comprehensive Orinda General Plan as a member of the General Plan Committee from 1985 to 1987; and WHEREAS Nora Harlow guided The Orinda Association as a Board member from 1988 to 1991, including two years as vice president; and WHEREAS Nora Harlow rewrote The Orinda Association's by-laws and set up its Public Affairs Committee to bring the good news of the County's largest voluntary homeowners association to the attention of Orinda's citizens and policymakers; and WHEREAS Nora Harlow designed, wrote and edited for five years the New Orinda News, a quarterly newspaper published just for the citizens of Orinda; and WHEREAS Nora Harlow contributed her expertise in landscape architecture and horticulture to The Orinda Association's Trees Committee and the Downtown Revitalization Project,drawing up new plans for the Mini-Park and the walk behind the Safeway; and WHEREAS Nora Harlow chaired the Creeks Committee of The Orinda Association, acting as a liaison between the Association, the City of Orinda and Contra Costa County in discussions of creek inventories and creeks management. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of Contra Costa, California, hereby CONGRATULATES Nora Harlow on her selection as one of The Orinda Association's Volunteers of the Year, COMMENDS Nora. Harlow for her unassuming and generous gifts of her designs and talents to Orinda, and EXTENDS to Nora Harlow its best wished for much further civic accomplishment and success. PASSED and ADOPTED this third day of December, 1991, by unanimous vote of the Board members present. I hereby certify that the foregoing is a true and correct copy of a resolution entered in the minutes of the Board of Supervisors on the date aforesaid. Fanden Distri I IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the Matter of Congratulating ) John Laye ) Resolution No.: 91/764 The Orinda Association ) Volunteer of the Year. 1991 ) WHEREAS John Laye has been named one of The Orinda Association's Volunteers of the Year in recognition of his. many years of creative, energetic and substantial professional contributions to the betterment of Orinda's schools, sports, business community, its downtown, and, above all, its exemplary preparation for civil or natural disasters; and WHEREAS John Laye worked with Costa County's P-4 Police Services Citizens' Advisory Committee, first recommending to the Board of Supervisors the level and funding of police and crime prevention services for the Orinda area, and later assuming that role with the new Orinda City Council; and WHEREAS John Laye successfully meshed the activities of The Orinda Association's Crime Prevention Committee with those of the City of Orinda after incorporation; and WHEREAS John Laye sought election to The Orinda Association Board in 1987, spent three years on the Board, first as treasurer in 1988, and rising quickly through the ranks, as president in 1989; and WHEREAS John Laye took charge of the Orinda Disaster Council, chairing it from 1987 to the present; and WHEREAS John Laye led the Orinda Disaster Council to the preparation of a disaster response plan that was the subject of an award from the State of California and Governor . Wilson as an outstanding example of a city's emergency response plan. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of Contra Costa, California, hereby CONGRATULATES John Laye on his selection as one of The Orinda Association's Volunteers of the Year, APPLAUDS John Laye for his longstanding dedication of time and talent to the law enforcement and emergency response needs of his County and City, and COMMENDS John Laye for setting high levels of personal and professional service to his community. PASSED and ADOPTED this third day of December, 1991 by unanimous vote of the Board members present.
