THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA
Adopted this Order on December 10, 1991 by the following vote:
AYES: Supervisors Fanden, Schroder, McPeak, Torlakson, Powers
NOES: None
ABSENT: None
ABSTAIN: None
SUBJECT: Chevron Release in Richmond
Gary Brown, Director, Office of Emergency Services, reported on
the recent Chevron release of silicon material- into the air in the
Richmond area. Mr. Brown advised that his role was to activate the
new Community Phone Network which advised residents in the North
Richmond area of steps they need to take such as staying in doors and
cleanup procedures when the release was over. He noted that he has -
received reports that some people in the targeted area did not
receive any phone calls relative to the release and that this
situation is being investigated.
On recommendation of Supervisor Powers, IT IS BY THE BOARD
ORDERED that the County Administrator is REQUESTED to report to the
Board on January 14 1992 on the role of County departments involved
in bringing the Chevron incident under control as well as recommen-
dations to improve communication and mitigation measures.
