SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF THE 1991 HEAD START APPLICATION TO THE ADMINISTRATION OF
CHILDREN, YOUTH AND FAMILIES
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
I . RECOMMENDED ACTION
APPROVE the 1991 Head Start application to the Administration
of Children, Youth and Families (ACYF) and AUTHORIZE the
Director, Community Services Department, or her designee, to
execute application documents on behalf of the Board.
II . FINANCIAL IMPACT
N/A. The funds reflected in this Board Order are already
incorporated into the 1990-91 County Budget.
III . CONSEQUENCES OF NEGATIVE ACTION
A decision not to approve this Contract would result in the
loss of Head Start funds for County services.
IV. REASONS FOR RECOMMENDED ACTION
The proposed application to ACYF in the amount of $3 ,563 ,781 to
provide Head Start services for approximately 819 children for
Calendar Year 1991. The Head Start Policy Council approved the
application on September 13 , 1990 . It is due in the ACYF
Regional Office September 28, 1990 .
The 1991 proposal involves the contribution of $102 ,479 in
County funds as a match requirement. Half of this amount has
been approved in the 1990-91 County Budget. The other half
will be requested in the 1991-92 Budget process.
