SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
RECOMMENTDATIONS
ACCEPT County Supervisors Association of California letters
informing the County that it has been selected as a FINALIST in
three categories of the 1990 CSAC Challenge Awards competition
and AUTHORIZE the County Administrator to take actions necessary
to assure appropriate County participation in the awards
' presentations and related exhibits.
BACKGROUND
The Board of Supervisors, on July 12, 1990, authorized the County
Administrator to submit on behalf of the Board six applications
to the County Supervisors Association of California (CSAC) 1990
CSAC Challenge Awards competition. One application was submitted
for each of six categories.
A September 18, 1990 CSAC letter advised the Board that the
County was selected as finalists in three of the categories:
Administration of Justice, Government Finance and Operations and
Housing, - Land Use and Transportation. With 105 ' applications
statewide, Contra Costa County captured three of 18 finalist
awards.
By becoming a finalist, the County has assured itself not only
the recognition of its excellence in public service but the
opportunity to share its success with other counties.

In submitting the applications the County agreed to certain
responsibilities should it become a finalist, including
participating in a slide presentation during the 96th CSAC Annual
Meeting in Orange County and creating and operating an exhibit
booth at "Counties Expo" during the meeting.
Grand Prize winners will be announced during the Challenge Awards
presentation November 29, 1990 .
The County Administrator' s Office will coordinate the activities
to comply with the competition requirements.
