WHEREAS on October 10, 1911, 4,000 years of monarchial rule by the Ch'ing Dynasty
in China ended, ushering in China's long sought and steadfastly fought for
independence; and
WHEREAS this independence created an open door to China that enabled the outside
world to learn about the cultural heritage of the Chinese; and :
WHEREAS today we are blessed with a rich Chinese heritage that strengthens our
communities and provides cultural enrichment to our citizens; and
WHEREAS Chinese- people everywhere celebrate the independence of 1911 and the brave
heroics of the men and women who, guided by the valor and leadership of Dr. Sun
Yat-Sen, made it possible with the annual Double Tenth celebration; and
WHEREAS it is fitting that we, who also enjoy independence because of the bravery
and determination of our forefathers, join in this important celebration as we
look forward to continued friendship and goodwill between our peoples;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT BY THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY,
CALIFORNIA RESOLVED, that it hereby PROCLAIMS October 10, 1990 as "Double Tenth
Day in Contra Costa County" and urge all citizens to join in appropriate
observances.
PASSED by unanimous vote of the Board members present on this 2nd day of October,
1990.
I hereby certify that the foregoing is a true and correct copy of a resolution
entered ,on the minutes of said Board of Supervisors on the date aforesaid.
