HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 01301990 - 1.22 THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA INTHE MATTER OF RESOLUTION NO. 9 0/5 9 Recognizing and commending Michael Ryan of Antioch as California's Highway Hero for 1989 WHEREAS,on June 13, 1989, Michael Ryan of Antioch, driving for Encore Environmental Container of Richmond, California,witnessed a two-car crash in which one car caught fire; and WHEREAS, after trying to extinguish the flames, Mr. Ryan forced his way into the car, cut away seat belts and carried three yound boys from the burning interior,then revived one unconcious youngster by administering CPR; and WHEREAS,because of this act of bravery without regard to his own personal safety, Michael Ryan was named California's Highway Hero for 1989; and WHEREAS,Mr. Ryan was one of 16 heroes selected in the nationwide honors program for truckers who perform acts of heroism or public service while on the job sponsored by the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, and thereby has become eligible for national honors and a $20,000 U.S. Savings Bond; NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED that the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors does hereby recognize and commend Michael Ryan for his bravery and designation as California's Highway Hero for 1989; PASSED by unanimous vote of the Board Members present on this 30th day of January, 1990.
