Miner, Executive Director Calla Contra Costa County Private Industry Council Costa DATE: December 12, 1989 SUBJECT: Endorsement of the 1990 Summer Youth Jobs Program (SYJP) Campaign. SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION(S) A BACIQsROUND AND JUSTIFICATION I. RECONYMNDATION ACTION: That the Board endorse the 1990 SYTP program and encourage the support from all Cities, Schools, Chambers of Commerce, in the efforts of the Corytra Costa County Private Industry Council and the State of California Employment Development Department to generate summer employment for unemployed County youths during May 15, 1990 - September 15, 1990. II. FINANCIAL I14PACT: None. 100 percent federal and state funds plus private sector donation. III. REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATION/BACKGROUND: The Board recognizing the need of unemployed youths in Contra Costa County and having endorsed and supported SYJP and accepted private donations from the private sector organizations for the last seven (7) years, successfully generating jobs for approximately 2500 youth per summer; The Summer Youth Jobs Program (SYJP) having been successful since its inception; the Contra Costa County SYJ-P program having received a Presidential Commendation for being one of the Nation's successful public/private programs to provide youth with summer jobs; It is hereby recommended the Board again endorse this program.
