LIBRARY AUTOMATION TRAINING SPECIALIST
DEFINITION:
Under general direction, to act as a training specialist for the
Library providing training - and technical assistance to staff in all County
libraries in the use of the automated circulation system; to assist in
developing, writing and documenting automated system procedures; and to perform
related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
Incumbents in this class act as expert specialist in the use of the
automated circulation system. In this role, they provide on-going training to
library staff on the CLSI circulation system, act as liaison with user personnel
in providing technical assistance and document and maintain records of
procedural operations. Work direction is received from the Library Automated
Systems Manager.
TYPICAL TASKS:
Develops training material and provides training to Library staff on
the use of the automated circulation system; provides technical assistance to
library staff in answering questions, researching and resolving problems
associated with the use of the automated system; assists in writing, updating
and distributing automation procedure manuals; documents and maintains records
on system uses and changes; develops and evaluates proposals for new automation
procedures and changes to existing procedures; and designs forms for use with
the automated system. May assist with diagnostics, maintenance and repair of
computer equipment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
License Required: Valid California Motor vehicle Operator's License.
Education/Experience Options:
Three years of full-time or its equivalent experience in a public
library performing library clerical duties including patron regristration and
charging and discharging books. At least one year of this experience must have
included direct and on-going interaction with a computerized circulation system.
OR
Successful completion of 60 semester or 90 quarter units from an
accredited college or university which included at least one three semester unit
or four and a half quarter unit course in each of the following areas: (1)
Introduction to Computer Science; (2) Word Processing or Database Management;
(3) English Composition and one year of full-time or its equivalent experience
performing library clerical duties including patron registration and charging
and discharging books. Experience must have included direct and on-going
interaction with a computerized circulation system.
