HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 12121990 - 1.66 TO-� BOARD OF SUPERVISORS Contra Costa FROM: Phil Batchelor, County Administrator _ `s County DATE: December 7 , 1989 SUBJECT: CONTRACT FOR DISPUTE RESOLUTION TRAINING SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION RECONIlWEENDATION Approve and authorize the Chairman to execute on behalf of the County a contract with Alan Tafapolsky in the amount of $9,600 for the period December 1, 1989 - October 31, 1990 for the purpose of conducting dispute resolution training for 72 selected community leaders and public officials. The contract is funded with a grant from the Dispute Resolution Program. No County General Funds are involved. BACKGROUND- One of the projects on which the Human Relations Commission has been working for some time is to provide a mechanism whereby racially oriented disputes in the community can be handled in an appropriate and non-threatening manner. One such mechanism is to establish a pool of trained individuals in the community who can be provided training in dispute resolution and to whom disputes can be referred for possible resolution. The Human Relations Commission has applied for funds from the Criminal Justice Agency' s Dispute Resolution Program and has been granted $11 , 300 for this purpose. The attached contract is with Alan Tafapolsky, who has been recommended by the Executive Director of the Human Relations Commission as an outstanding expert in the field of dispute resolution training. Since the payment limit for the contract is paid for from the grant provided by the Criminal Justice Agency' s Dispute Resolution Program, there are no County funds required.
