III. REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATIONSLBACKGROUND:
This contractor has been providing these day treatment services to
adults under an extension of Fiscal Year 1988-89 Contracts #24-332-
5 (as amended by Contract Amendment Agreement #24-332-6) and #24-373-
2 . Novation Contracts #24-332-7 and #24-373-3, respectively, replace
the six-month automatic extension under the above contracts.
These two Fiscal Year 1989-90 contracts should be approved because
the contract services are a vital and important part of the County's
efforts to reduce utilization of State Hospital bed days (within our
allocation) and to reduce overcrowding on Merrithew Memorial Hospital
Psychiatric Wards. These services provide a program to transition
patients to a less restrictive setting in the community.
