The initial target population will be women who seek prenatal services at the three largest County-operated prenatal clinics and women receiving labor and delivery services at Merrithew Memorial Hospital. As a model program, the Born Free Project will seek to demonstrate the viability of directly integrating recovery services into the provision of prenatal health care. The primary goals of the project are to decrease the prevalence of substance abuse among pregnant women and new mothers, and to increase the number of intact, recovering families. The Department will be requesting Board approval of five project positions for the Born Free Project at a later date.
