HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 10101989 - 89-657 IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA .COUNTY, CALIFORNIA In the Matter of ) Proclaiming October 14, 1989 ) Resolution No. : 89/6157 South End Rowinq'Club Day in ) Contra Costa County ) WHEREAS The South End Rowing Club of San Francisco will be holding the Martinez Marathon Row on October 14, 1989; and WHFREAS the South End Rowing Club will be rowing historic rowboats in the thirty-five mile journey from Aquatic Park in San Francisco to the Martinez Marina on October 14, 1989, in a six-hour row, arriving at the Martinez Marina about 3:00 p.m. ; and WHEREAS the South End Rowing Club will be rowing its venerable wooden rowboat, the forty-foot Southender, which was built in 1915 in Alameda for the South End Rowing Club; and WHEREAS the South End Rowing Club was founded in 1873 in San Francisco as an athletic club for the workers of The City, with a membership of firefighters, police officers, transit workers and others who worked in The City's public services; and WHEREAS the South End Rowing Club preserves and maintains the historic traditions of exercise and recreation on San Francisco Bay with its rows, swims and social activities. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of Contra Costa, California, hereby PROCLAIMS October 14, 1989, South End Rowing Club Day in Contra Costa County, WELCOMES the Southender with its crew of six rowers, one coxswain and one bailer, and EXTENDS to the South End Rowing Club its best wishes for a successful row to the Martinez Marina. PASSED and ADOPTED on the tenth day of October, 1989, by unanimous vote of the Board members present. I hereby certify that the foregoing is a true and correct copy of a resolution entered in the minutes of the Board of Supervisors on the date aforesaid.
