SUBJECT: Proposal to establish a Bay Area Bioscience Center
at Pleasant Hill BART.
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATIONS(S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
RECOMMENDATIONS
Accept report from Redevelopment Director on Proposal to establish
a Bay Area Bioscience Center at Pleasant Hill BART.
FISCAL IMPACT
None.
BACKGROUND/REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATIONS
The Bay Area Economic Forum has established a Bay Area Bioscience
Center to nurture bioscience activities in the Bay Area, and
advance public understanding of the field. The Center will serve
as a centralized source of information about bioscience.
The Bioscience Center desires to establish a permanent location.
To accomplish this a Request for Proposals was circulated to Bay
Area communities and developers. The Bay Area Bioscience Center
needs approximately 2, 500 square feet of class A or B office space.
The desired site should have: 1) good freeway access; 2) available
parking; 3 ) location proximate to UC Berkeley, UCSF and Stanford;
4) proximity to public transportation; 5) expansion capabilities;
6) access to conference facilities.
This prestigious Bioscience * Center is appropriate for the Pleasant
Hill BART Station Area. At the urging of Agency staff, Urban West
has submitted a proposal.
