SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATIONS(S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION RECOMMENDATIONS Accept report from Redevelopment Director on Proposal to establish a Bay Area Bioscience Center at Pleasant Hill BART. FISCAL IMPACT None. BACKGROUND/REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATIONS The Bay Area Economic Forum has established a Bay Area Bioscience Center to nurture bioscience activities in the Bay Area, and advance public understanding of the field. The Center will serve as a centralized source of information about bioscience. The Bioscience Center desires to establish a permanent location. To accomplish this a Request for Proposals was circulated to Bay Area communities and developers. The Bay Area Bioscience Center needs approximately 2, 500 square feet of class A or B office space. The desired site should have: 1) good freeway access; 2) available parking; 3 ) location proximate to UC Berkeley, UCSF and Stanford; 4) proximity to public transportation; 5) expansion capabilities; 6) access to conference facilities. This prestigious Bioscience * Center is appropriate for the Pleasant Hill BART Station Area. At the urging of Agency staff, Urban West has submitted a proposal.
