Lemke has served her county and its citizens for 25 years as Executive Director of the Contra Costa Unit of the American Cancer Society. Under her leadership, the Society has helped established tumor registries at four hospitals in the county to determine the best treatment for cancer. The society has provided assistance to literally thousands of cancer patients and their families through the years. She has reached her fellow citizens throughout the county with information on how they can prevent, treat and cure cancer and with the help of her fellow citizens, she has helped the Cancer Society to raise funds to contribute to scientific research to find future cancer cures. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Supervisors that January 29, 1989, is designated as MARIAN G. LEMKE DAY in Contra Costa County and that congratulations and sincere thanks upon her retirement are expressed on this day by her fellow citizens.
