MICHAEL WALFORD, CHIEF ENGINEER DATE: February 14, 1989 SUBJECT: San Ramon Creek Project No. : 7520-6B8233 Task: ACQ Account: 3540 SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATIONS) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION I. Recommended Action: Authorize the Chief Engineer to commence acquisition of property at 1420 Livorna Road, Alamo, to protect the future right of way for the improvement of San Ramon Creek. II. Financial Impact: A current expenditure by the District of up to $300,000 which may be partially reimbursed in the future by the State Department of Water Resources. Most of this expense may be recovered in the future by the sale of any remainder of this parcel which becomes surplus. III. Reasons for Recommendations: This parcel is currently for sale by the owner. Costs can be saved by purchasing from a willing seller and selling whatever remains of the parcel after the project construction. Relocation expenses are avoided and costly negotiations can be reduced. A large portion of this parcel will be needed for its improvement. V. Conseauences of Negative Action: Higher costs to the District in the future will result if we must condemn property from an unwilling seller and pay relocation benefits.
