HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 12191989 - S.6 IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the Matter of Declaring ) January 1, 1990, JOHN JAWAD DAY ) RESOLUTION NO. 89/801 in Contra Costa County ) WHEREAS, John Jawad has been a resident and businessman in Contra Costa County for many years and his establishment, the Pioneer Inn, is a reputable landmark in the City of Clayton; and WHEREAS, the county has become increasingly concerned with the problem of substance abuse and has embarked on a countywide effort to develop a community action plan to fight the problems associated with substance abuse; and WHEREAS, the county has specifically encouraged the participationof the business community in this effort; and WHEREAS, John, as a responsible business person, has recently proposed to the residents of Clayton the option of "free pickup and return to your home" upon making dinner reservations at the Pioneer Inn; and WHEREAS, he is offering this as a solution to the drinking and driving problem in the county and also as a way to make people take responsiblity for their actions and to realize that celebration does not have to mean intoxication; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors does hereby declare January 1, 1990, be declared JOHN JAWAD DAY in Contra Costa County for his forward- thinking approach for a solution to drunk driving.
