There is a need for additional funding but the planned Galindo Creek improvements do not qualify for the participation of the County Flood Control District. The Community Development Department has established contact with the City staff and the MAS. Karen Mahshi, Vice President of the MAS, along with a member of the City staff, have been invited to the County' s Urban Forestation (Tree) Task meetings. During the November 14, 1989 meeting various measures to enhance the beauty of the arboretum were discussed. Karen Mahshi (MAS) and Klans Heyer (City staff) explained that the basic problem of the arboretum was not the poor management or the lack of cooperation from other public or private agencies but the shortage of funding. In appreciation of the best efforts of the City and the Markham Arboretum Society in maintaining the arboretum with limited funds, the Task Force recommended that the Board of Supervisors express support to the City' s present and future efforts for qrants from various sources including the State Department of Water Resources and the Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.
