REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATION/BACKGROUND As part of the construction mitigation for the I-680/SR24 interchange modifications , $694, 000 in federal funds are available to construct a commuter bike path. The bike path is to be located on the former Southern Pacific Railroad right of way from Rudgear Road in Walnut Creek to Monument Boulevard in Concord. This bike path will be part of the Iron Horse Trail. The total estimated cost for the commuter bike path is approximately $940, 000. The local share will be funded by the City of Walnut Creek from City funds designated for that purpose and from Contra Costa County Redevelopment Agency revenues. The Cooperative Agreement provides for the construction funding. . An existing maintenance agreement with the East Bay Regional Park District will be amended to include this portion of the Iron Horse Trail . The Transportation Committee reviewed this Cooperative Agreement on November 27, 1989 . IV. CONSEQUENCES OF NEGATIVE ACTION Failure to execute this Cooperative Agreement may result in the loss of $694 , 000 for construction of the Iron Horse Trail from Rudgear Road to Monument Boulevard.
