OF
CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
In the Matter of Proclaiming )
November as LONG TERM CARE ) RESOLUTION NO. 89/ 722
AWARENESS MONTH )
Recent studies estimate that over 1.1 million Californians need
long term care services due to disabilities and chronic
illnesses. This number will grow to 1.6 million by the year
2000.
There does not exist a comprehensive program of long term care
for these individuals, and persons will need care due to
limitations in their ability to perform tasks essential to
living independently due to stroke, Alzheimers, AIDS, head
injury, and other conditions.
National attention is now being focused on the difficult issues
and serious problems in providing security, assistance, and
support to families facing a long term care crisis; and numerous
local agencies are attempting to fill the gaps for those needing
services.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Supervisors that
in recognition of the critical importance of calling attention
to these vital issues it does hereby proclaim November 1989 as
LANG TERM CARE AWARENESS MONTH in Contra Costa County.
PASSED AND ADOPTED ON November 7, 1989, by a unanimous vote of
the Board members present.
