HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 11291988 - 1.89 TO: BOARD OF SUPERVISORS 1-089 FROM: Ernest Siegel, County Librarian Contra Costa DATE: 10/17/88 Co^ SUBJECT: AUTHORIZING RELIEF FROM CASH SHORTAGE IN REVENUE FUND ACCOUNT AT THE LAFAYETTE LIBRARY , SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION(S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION REASON ..FOR:'RECOMMENDATION: Authorize relief of shortage of the Lafayette Library: Revenue Account $68 . 80, pursuant to Government Code Section 29390. BACKGROUND: When employee F. Lattier reported to work on 10/13/88 she counted all cash and noticed that .:$65 . 30 was missing. She reported this information to the branch librarian, Barbara Furgason in the afternoon, when she arrived. Barbara Furgason reported the infor- mation to Library Administration at 2 :30 p.m. There was no sign or evidence of a break-in, therefore the Lafayette Police weren' t notified upon discovery. The missing money was taken between the last deposit on October 3 , 1988 and the morning of October 13, 1988 . Upon discovery of the missing money the Librarian immediately instituted tighter controls over money. All staff were to make a duplicate note with their initials when ringing the cash register. At 5 : 30 p.m. on 10/13/88 , staff (Cindy Silver and Susan Reeve) totaled the cash register and counted the money. The tape agreed with staff notations and the money received balanced with the tape at 5 : 30 p.m. The change box at the Reference Desk �was counted by Susan Reeve and Tarnel O'Keefe which totaled to $7 . 50 All money was locked up at 6 :00 p.m. On 10/14/88 at 8 :45 a.m. F. Lattier and Barbara Furgason unlocked the cabinet together and counted the money together. Both amounts of money were short . (Cash register money was $1. 85 short and Request/Reserves box was $1. 65 short) The branch librarian immediately reported these facts to Jerry Prideaux in Library Administration. Jerry Prideaux advised the branch librarian to notify the Lafayette Police. The Lafayette Police were notified between 9:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. on' 10/14/88.
