HOUSING AUTHORITY OF THE COUNTY OF CONTRA COSTA
TO: BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS DATE: November 29, 1988
FROM: cc:
Perfecto Villarreal , Executive Director
SUBJECT:
LETTER FROM UNITED STATES CONGRESSMAN GEORGE MILLER
I. RECOMMENDED ACTION:
ACCEPT letter, dated November 3, 1988 from United States Congressman George
Miller thanking the Advisory Housing Commission for urging Congress to re-fund
expiring Section 8 Existing Housing contract.
11. FINANCIAL IMPACT:
None.
III. REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATION/BACKGROUND:
On July 18, 1988 the Advisory Housing Commission forwarded letters to Contra
Costa County's United States Congressional Representatives and Senators expressing
concern over the potential catastrophic effect to thousands of low income families,
senior citizens and disabled persons if Congress did not act to re-fund the expiring
Se I ction 8 Existing Housing Program contracts.
A letter, dated November 3, 1988, received from United States Congressman
George Miller points out that the 1989 HUD appropriations bill earmarks $38 million
to re-fund all of the contracts expiring in 1989. This action was taken because the
number of expiring contracts was relatively small . This does not guarantee, however,
that all of the contracts due to expire after 1989 will be re-funded, as it might
prove more difficult to secure complete re-funding once the number of expiring
contracts increases.
IV. CONSEQUENCES OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
None.,
