HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 10251988 - T.A IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the Matter of Recognizing and ) Commending David Newbry For His ) Heroism and Quick Thinking When ) Resolution No. 88/669 His Sister was Injured In a Hit- ) and-Run Accident October 8, 1988 ) WHEREAS David Newbry and his sister, Jessica, were crossing San Pablo Dam Road in a crosswalk on October 8, 1988, when his sister was struck by an auto which tossed Jessica over fifty feet; and WHEREAS David Newbry pulled his sister out of the traffic to the side of the road; and WHEREAS David Newbry observed the details of the sedan that hit his sister and provided police with a description of the driver; and WHEREAS David Newbry determined that his sister was not breathing and immediately began mouth-to-mouth resuscitation as he had been taught by paramedics at Marie Murphy Elementary School in El Sobrante; and WHEREAS David Newbry stopped a passing motorist, who covered Jessica Newbry with a sleeping bag; and WHEREAS David Newbry ran to Sam Yuen Chinese Restaurant to summon aid by dialing 911, then went back to his sister to stay with her until the paramedics arrived; and WHEREAS David Newbry displayed extraordinary presence of mind performing lifesaving and crime reporting actions in a short period of time without reference to adult direction; and WHEREAS David Newbry is a homegrown heroic lifesaver. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of Contra Costa, California, RECOGNIZES David Newbry's exceptionally quick thinking and application of lifesaving techniques, COMMENDS his heroism and SALUTES David Newbry's parents and teachers who taught him the skills he needed to aid law enforcement and to save his sister. Passed and adopted on October 25, 1988 by unanimous vote of the Board members present. I hereby certify that the foregoing is a true and correct copy of a resolution entered in the minutes of the Board of Supervisors on the date aforesaid.
