Broadway, West Pittsburg. BACKGROUND: On July 19, 1988 the Board of Supervisors referred to the Director of Building Inspection for a report a petition signed by a number of residents in the area near 74 N. Broadway, West Pittsburg, complaining about drugs being sold from the property and asking the Board of Supervisors have the property abated. Building Inspection responded to the petition as soon as they received a copy of it, even before it was referred to them by the Board. As the attached memo from Mr. Martindale indicates the complaint was investigated on July 13 and a letter was sent to the owner on July 14 . Copies of this letter and a follow-up letter dated August 11, 1988 are attached. Since the Sheriff ' s Office was also mentioned in the petition, the Sheriff ' s Office responded as well. A copy of Assistant Sheriff RupfIs memo is attached, indicating the steps that have been taken to clean up the property and have the vacant units boarded up. Subsequently the owner of the property has obtained a building permit to do some remodeling on the building. All vacant units are currently boarded up and the alleged drug traffic that was going on has terminated. The Building Inspection Department reports that the owner seems to be cooperative and as long as progress is made in getting the units rehabilitated again and livable no abatement action is appropriate. No further action by the Board of Supervisors appears necessary at this time. Our Patrol Division personnel continue to take a high profile posture in the North Broadway area. They, supported by our Narcotics Unit, continue to fight against the narcotics transactions that have occurred in that area. In specific reference to 74 North Broadway, Lieutenant Snell, our Delta Station Commander, reports that all but one of the apartments have been vacated and are boarded up to prevent trespassing. We have also caused to be removed, all abandoned vehicles from the rear of the complex. Our operational impression is that crack dealers have moved from the area, however, 'our vigilance will continue to the extent that resources and other priorities 'allow.
