Annual salary range will be $28,812-35,016 . This is a budgeted
position in the Airport Enterprise Fund.

During the past several years, aviation activity at the Airport and
residential growth in the surrounding areas have brought Airport
activities to the forefront of public attention. A new position
is needed to deal with the public concerns of noise and safety.
The Aviation Advisory Committee and the Airport consultants that
prepared our 150 Noise Study recommend that the position of
Community Relations Officer be created.
Buchanan Field is primarily general aviation serving business
industry and personal flying, with limited scheduled air service
by USAir. In addition, there are several emergency services which
are operated, either partially or totally, from the Airport. These
include the Office of Emergency Services, Consolidated Fire
District, the Civil Air Patrol, various ambulance services, Oceanic
Society, and several police agencies .
In 1986, The Airport was ranked thirteenth busiest in the Western
Pacific Region and eleventh busiest in California. In recent
years, real estate development around the Airport has increased
substantially and Airport activity has continued at a high level .
Since the 1985 aircraft accident at Sun Valley Mall, community
concern about the Airport has greatly increased. With the
introduction of scheduled air service, citizens in the surrounding
area have become more active in voicing their concerns and
interacting with Airport staff. In every year since 1985, the
number of noise complaints has increased.
The Airport Community Relations Officer will be able to devote full
time to establishing and administering programs to meet noise
abatement and safety goals . This position will act as a liaison
between the Airport, the tenants, community groups, and other
governmental agencies . The person selected will develop programs
for the community groups and the pilot groups to provide both sides
with information regarding the concerns of the others .
Establishing the position of Airport Community Relations Officer
will serve the community and the Airport in dealing with noise and
safety issues, as well as providing better general information
regarding the Airport activities .
