NEED FOR "NO PARKING" RESTRICTION BETWEEN
SUBJECT: RAILROAD TRACKS AND HIGHWAY 4 IN OAKLEY
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION(S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
RECONII1ENDED ACTION: Direct the Public Works Department and
the Community Development Department to send a letter to the Santa Fe
Railroad Company and Caltrans to request that "NO PARKING" signs be
posted in the area between Cutino' s Feed Store and the old theatre
near the railroad tracks in Oakley.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: An informal used car lot has formed
along the Sante Fe railroad tracks in Oakley. This area has become an
eyesore and detracts significantly from downtown Oakley. The Oakley
Municipal Advisory Council and other concerned residents have been
working hard to upgrade the image of downtown Oakley. They have been
unsuccessful, however, in trying to rid this particular area of
informal car sales and abandoned vehicles. Caltrans has a 4-foot
easement and the railroad owns the other portion of this section.
Oakley needs the cooperation of both agencies to post this area with
"No Parking" signs.
