MICHAEL WALFORD, PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR DATE: JANUARY 26, 1988 SUBJECT: ENDORSE APPLICATION BY FRIENDS OF TICE CREEK FOR STATE GRANT ON TICE CREEK IN WALNUT CREEK AREA Specific Request(s) or Recommendation(s) & Background & Justification I. RECOMMENDATION ENDORSE the Friends of Tice Creek application for a grant from the State Department of Water Resources to develop a Restoration and Enhancement Plan for Tice Creek in the Walnut Creek area and AUTHORIZE the Chair of the Board to sign a letter of endorsement. II. FINANCIAL IMPACT None III. REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATIO&BACKGROUND Over the years a great deal of effort has been extended to develop an acceptable and comprehensive flood control plan for Tice Creek. A plan involving detention basins and creek bypass pipe lines is currently being prepared by the Flood Control District and should be available for public review in the near future. The actions being taken by Friends of Tice Creek is an indication of the desire and commitment of area residents to not only preserve, but to restore and enhance the creek to establish a productive ecosystem. The grant will allow retention of specialized consulting services to develop restoration and erosion control plans as well as the development of a public education program.
