Introduced January 12, 1988 , for Costa Board Action on January 19, 1988 C ointy SUBJECT; TSM MEASURE: FLEXIBLE TRUCK DELIVERY SPECIFIC RE EST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION(S) & BACKGROUND AMID JUSTIFICATION RECOMMENDED ACTION: Refer to the Transportation Committee the idea of communicating with stores and other businesses about flexible truck delivery hours to help reduce the need for truck traffic during peak commute hours. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: It was brought to my attention by beverage company representatives that stores on their delivery routes often have restrictive delivery schedules (usually around 9 a.m. to 11, a.m. ) This makes it necessary for the company' s trucks to be on the road during the peak commute hours to make delivery times. Also, if delivery trucks get held up in traffic and don' t get to their destination on time--they are sent back full and must duplicate the trip on another day. As a TSM measure, the county could communicate with the various stores and businesses that requirement shipments of beverages (or other products) to allow flexible delivery time throughout the day so the companies with the slow-moving trucks that have, for instance, regularly impeded traffic in East County on Highway 4 would have greater ability to deliver during the off-peak hours.
