HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 02231988 - S.1 TO: BOARD OF SUPERVISORS FROM: supervisor Nancy Fanden Contra Costa February 9, 1988 for consideration County DATE: February 23, 1988 SUBJECT: COORDINATION OF LITTER CONTROL BETWEEN CITY OF MARTINEZ & COUNTY SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION(S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION RECOMMENDATION: That the Sheriff ' s Department and the Martinez Police Department set up a meeting to discuss how they can coordinate patrols between our two jurisdictions, primarily along roads that have become "dumping" grounds for all kinds of litter. That increased surveillance be discussed, along with ways to discover the identities of these people. That those identified (perhaps through correspondence or mail found at the dumping area) be notified that it is illegal to dump in the county and that they could be subject to a fine - or worse yet - a day in court. BACKGROUND: Once again we are seeing irresponsible individuals dumping litter, abandoned vehicles and trash along the Carquinez Scenic Dr. This is a situation that cannot be tolerated by law abiding citizens, public officials or law enforcement personnel. We need a joint effort if we' re going to put any type of pressure on these people. Our law enforcement officials, as a matter of policy, must draw the line on this type of illegal activity and request that the courts take a firm stand to punish this activity to the full extent of the law. I have spoken to a member of the Martinez City Council, who will request at the next regularily scheduled Council meeting, (February 17, 1988) that the city participate in this cooperative effort to better patrol our scenic roads.
