February 10, 1988, (JOJ „Y SUBJECT: Legislation: AB 3014 (Baker) SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION(S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION RECOMMENDATION• IN Indicate that the Board of Supervisors supports and is the sponsor of AB 3014 by Assemblyman Bill Baker which will serve as the legislative vehicle for the Marshal/Sheriff consolidation. BACKGROUND: Negotiations have been underway for some -months to. arrive at a consensus on the details of an agreement under which the Sheriff would assume the duties of the Marshal in regard 'to the Municipal Court. State legislation is necessary to confirm . the agreement reached among the Board of Supervisors, the Municipal Court, the Sheriff-Coroner and the Marshal. Assemblyman Baker has agreed to carry this legislation. He has introduced AB 3014 for this purpose. AB 3014 currently is only a . "spot bill" which amends the portion of the Government Code dealing with the Marshal' s Office. Once specific language is agreed to by all parties, it will be amended into AB 3014. It is, however, appropriate for the Board at this time to identify 'AB 3014 as a bill the Board is sponsoring, and it is, therefore, recommended that the Board indicate -its support and sponsorship of AB 3014.
