THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA
Adopted this Order on _December 13 , 1988_, by the following vote:
AYES: Supervisors Powers , Fanden, McPeak, Torlakson, Schroder
NOES: None
ABSENT: None
ABSTAIN: None
SUBJECT: Oral Report on the Homeless Situation
James Rydingsword, Director of the Social Service Department,
spoke about the services provided to the homeless at the shelters
located in Richmond and Concord. Two members of the Social Service
Department' s staff, each in charge of one of the shelters , spoke of
the counseling services being provided, the availability of health
care, referrals for employment, and assistance provided to homeless
families with children which include motel vouchers and financial
assistance with the first and last months rent.
Board members noted that the armories are not a permanent
solution to providing shelter for the homeless and that more needs
to be done in this area. They expressed appreciation to the staff
of the Social Service Department and to the many volunteers who are
assisting at the shelters.
Therefore, IT IS BY THE BOARD ORDERED that the oral report is
ACCEPTED.
