HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 12131988 - 2.3 2 . 3 THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA Adopted this Order on _December 13 , 1988_, by the following vote: AYES: Supervisors Powers , Fanden, McPeak, Torlakson, Schroder NOES: None ABSENT: None ABSTAIN: None SUBJECT: Oral Report on the Homeless Situation James Rydingsword, Director of the Social Service Department, spoke about the services provided to the homeless at the shelters located in Richmond and Concord. Two members of the Social Service Department' s staff, each in charge of one of the shelters , spoke of the counseling services being provided, the availability of health care, referrals for employment, and assistance provided to homeless families with children which include motel vouchers and financial assistance with the first and last months rent. Board members noted that the armories are not a permanent solution to providing shelter for the homeless and that more needs to be done in this area. They expressed appreciation to the staff of the Social Service Department and to the many volunteers who are assisting at the shelters.
