MICHAEL WALFORD, PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR DATE: December 13 , 1988 SUBJECT: INCREASE of Project Contingency Fund and APPROVAL of Contract Change Order No. 1 for the Pleasant Hill Road Slide Repair. Project No. 0671-6R6775-86. Specific Request(s) or Recommendation(s) & Background & Justification RECOMMENDED ACTION: APPROVE Project Contingency Fund increase of $21, 000 and AUTHORIZE the Public Works Director to execute Contra Change order No. 1 in the amount of $29, 552 .84 to compensate the contractor, L & S General Contractors, Inc. for increases in contract quantities. FINANCIAL IMPACT: The increase in the Contingency Fund will be funded by the Federal Highway Administration. REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATION/BACKGROUND: The limits of the slide area have expanded requiring a 60-foot extension of the bulkhead. Contract Change Order No. 1 provides for the extra work. This Change Order exceeds $25, 000, requiring Board approval. CONSEQUENCES OF NEGATIVE ACTION: The lack of approval would preclude the complete repair of the slide.
