APPOINTMEN TO THE l.l' Ilr
SUBJECT: HUMAN RELATIONS COMMISSION
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) ORRECOMMENDATION(S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
RECONEENDATION
Appoint to the Human Relations Commission either Cynthia Elaine
Smith of Pittsburg (nominated by Supervisor Torlakson) or Margo
Segura of El So rante (nominated by Supervisor McPeak) .
BACKGROUND:
As we reported last week, there is still one vacancy on the Human
Relations Commission. The Human Relations Commission has
interviewed all of the candidates and recommended all of the
female candidates to our Committee. On November 1, 1988, the
Board appointed two of these women to the Commission. Our
Committee agreIs that each of the remaining candidates is
outstanding. Any of them would make an outstanding contribution
to the Commission. We have been unable to agree on a single
candidate and are, therefore, presenting for the Board' s
consideration the two candidates we agree are the most qualified.
The Board will ave to choose between these two highly qualified
candidates.
