RYDINGSWORD, DIRECTOR Social Service Department Contra Costa DATE: October 20 , 1988 County SUBJECT: BOARD CERTIFICATION FOR ADMINISTRATION OF FY 1989-90 STATE CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION (CAPIT) FUNDS SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION RECOMMENDATION: Authorize the Board Chairman to sign a State-initiated Certification form (County No. 29-021•-6) which indicates the County' s intentions regarding administering FY 1989-90 State- funds for Child Abuse Prevention, Intervention and Treatment (CAPIT) . FINANCIAL IMPACT: No County funds are involved. State funding in the amount of $ 223 , 632 has already been encumbered for the County for- FY, orFX 1989-90. BACKGROUND: The socillService- Department- has received- an October- 6, 1988 letter from- the State Department- of Social Services-Office of Child Abuse Prevention (OLAP) which requests certification by the Chairman of the Board that the County intends to- administer its own Child Abuse Prevent-ion, Intervention and Treatment (CAPIT) programs for FY 1989-90 . The State- is requesting this information early on from- all counties to- enable OLAP to plan bid activities, where necessary, for FY 1989-90. On June 21 , 1988, the Board approved State Grant No.A8-506- (County PIo. 29-021-5) which authorizes County administration of CAPITIfunded programs- through FY 1990-91.
