egistration: The registration process in the PHS system involves interviewing

and accurate demographic information. The registration process impacts not only
on the revenue but on patient care. As part of registrAtion;'it is important
to be concerned with the patient's financial situation and assist patients as
needed in completing applications for Basic Adult Care. Part of the process
\ involves being knowledgeable in the criteria of both Medi-Cal and Basic A
Care so tb.%A, the patients can be appropriately directed to o sin medical
coverage that will benefit the patient as well as Health Services.
ppointments: Make appointments face-to-face and by telephone for patients who
come to the clinic and also make referral appointments to other Health Services
clinics. This necessitates a knowledge of which services are covered for the
different types of medical coverage. Part of the referral process involves
getting medical records to other sites in a confidential and timely manner. At
times this also involves using the telecopier.
Cashier: Receive payments from patients on open accounts, deposits on visits,
i deposits on medication, and in payment for ancillary service. Must be
/.. knowledgeable in safe and accurate handling of cash receipts and be responsible
U ) for the safeguarding of cash received.
Assisting the Public: Will be called upon daily to direct calls, answer
questions regarding Health Services and assist patients with their bills.
Will frequently answer questions and direct the public to the appropriate
departments within the County but outside of Health Service. Will frequently
be first contact the public has with the clinic system; it is of upmost impor-
tance for the clerk to be helpful, friendly and professional in any dealings
with the public. .
Medical Records: Pulling and filing back charts for clinic, refill requests,
40% chart reviews, and nurse requests. Stamping and readying charts for clinic.
Interfiling correspondence and medical information into charts, running charts
from Medical Record Department to other areas, answering telephones, operating
telecopier, and data entry into PHS computer.
