The following item was brought to the attention of Board members
after the agenda was posted, and the Board unanimously agreed to
the need to take action.
SUBJECT: Grant Award for a Teen Violence Prevention Project
in Contra Costa County
Supervisor S. W. McPeak announced that she has been notified
that the Health Services Department has been awarded a three-year
grant for a teen violence prevention project by the U. S. Depart-
ment of Health and Human Services. She noted that in the the
three-year ( $125, 000 per year) Special Projects of Regional and
National Significance (SPRANS) award, the granting agency in
Washington stated that they were "impressed with the many achieve-
ments that have already gained recognition and the ways that this
proposal builds upon those achievements. "
Board members commented on the work of staff as well as the
efforts of the Alternatives to Violence and Abuse Coalition and the
1986 Task Force on Alcohol, Drug, and Violence Prevention.
Therefore, IS IS BY THE BOARD ORDERED that receipt of the
notice of the grant award is ACKNOLWEDGED.
IT IS FURTHER ORDERED that the Health Services Department
staff are COMMENDED for their efforts in obtaining the grant for
Contra Costa County.
