Other: for0bune4 nistrator oard of Supervisors Action OCT 27 1987 Phil Batchelor, Clerk of the Board of djustment APPROVEMNEEMORM on Supervi rs nd unty Administrator ate: OCT 2 7 1987, By: 'PROVAL OF THIS ADJUSTMENT CONSTITUTES A PERSONNEL/SALARY RESOLUTION AMENDMENT. 300 M 5 RP: 9/15/87 PROPOSED SALARY LEVEL #C5-1928 ($3122-3795) (pre-7/1/87 level) QUALITY ASSURANCE COORDINATOR DEFINITION: Under direction, coordinates non-physician quality assurance acti- vities for Merrithew Memorial Hospital and Clinics; facilitates the integration of hospital ancillary service quality assurance activities with those of the medical staff; provides administrative staff assistance to the Medical Quality Assurance Committee; performs related work as required. DISTINQUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: This single position management class is located in the Hospital and Clinics Division of the Health Services Department and is identified as an admi- nistrative staff position assigned to monitor and coordinate hospital quality assurance activities. This class is distinguished fram Utilization Review Coordinator in that positions in the latter class perform clinically oriented chart reviews and assist in the collection of physician quality assurance data. This class'reports to the Associate Hospital 7xecutive Director - Patient Care. TYPICAL TASKS: Receives and reviews incident reports and other information for 'the purpose of•monitoring quality assurance (QA) activities in the hospital ancillary services; makes referrals for action; maintains a tracking system of activities to insure hospital accreditation standards are met; recommends what information, to wham, and how often QA data is reported; prepares schedules and reports on QA problems and solutions for Hospital Administration and the Medical Staff; attends meetings of the Medical Quality Assurance Cammittee, collects data and prepares reports for then, and protects the confidentiality of commit- tee proceedings; reviews the minutes of ancillary department QA activities- to monitor the resolution of QA issues; assists physician and deparmental QA can- mittees develop criteria for QA studies and appropriate QA monitors/screens; reccmmends methodology and assists in the collection, analysis and presentation of data for QA studies; serves as a resource person for other staff members relative to QA issues; participates in the National Association .of QA Professionals and the local Patient Care Assessment Council for the purpose of staying informed on new developments; prepares a variety of reports and correspondence. MINTMUM QUALIFICATIONS: License Required: Possession of a valid license as a Registered Nurse in the State of California. Experience: Three years of full time experience, or it's equivilent, as a Registered Nurse in an acute care hospital Substitution: Possession of a baccalaureate degree in nursing frau an accre- diated college or university may be substituted for 6 months of the required experience. KNO14LEDGF, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of quality assurance principles and practices appli- cable to -hospitals and clinics; knowledge of acute care hospital organization and the interelationships of various clinical and diagnostics services; knowledge of medical staff organization including the roles and respon- sibilities of physician cammittees; knowledge of medical terminology, hospital routine and cammonly used medical equipment; knowledge of fundamental sta- tistics and. methods of graphic presentation; ability to organize and conduct medically ' oriented quality assurance studies; ability to gather, analyze and present data; ability to camunicate effectively verbally and in writing; abi- lity to get along with physicians, nurses and other health care professionals.
