MICHAEL WALFORD, PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR DATE: October 21 , 1987 SUBJECT: Approval of Revised Airport Layout Plan pecific .Request s or Recommen ation s Background & Justification RECOMMENDED ACTION: APPROVE the revised Buchanan Field Airport Layout Plan (ALP) . FINANCIAL IMPACT: None REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATION/BACKGROUND: The Airport Layout Plan is the primary document used by the Federal Aviation Administration for purposes of determining airport grants . Any item of work requested that is not included on an Airport Layout Plan cannot be programmed by the Federal Aviation Administration. The airport is in the process of doing a new Master Plan for Buchanan Field Airport. One of the major issues that has been resolved in the master planning process is that of taxiway. realignment. The taxiway system on Buchanan Field Airport is very confusing. The Manager of Airports , the Tower Chief and the Aviation Advisory Committee also feel that safety could be improved with the removal of some of the taxiway pavements and realignment of others . This is particularly the case in the approaches to Runway 32L. The Aviation Advisory. Committee at its regularly scheduled meeting 17F September 15 , 1987 evaluated the revised taxiway alignment system and recommends approval . Continued on attachment: yes Signature_. A portion of this work is for taxiway upgrading. An approval of the revised ALP at this time will allow us to proceed with engineering of some of the taxiway realignments under the current grant in preparation for construction in the summer of 1988. In addition to the taxiway realignment, the planners for the airport have also examined our runway end locations in relation to FAA criteria based upon obstructions , safety areas and aircraft types operating from the airport. These runway end relocations are also identified on the new Airport Layout Plan. There are no other changes to the plan at the present time. Orig.
