SUBJECT: Contract Award Recommendation for Taxiway "A" Lighting Renovation &
Runway Distance Remaining Signs, AIP Project #3-06-0050-03- & 05
Specific Requests or Recommendations & Background & Justification
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
AWARD the contract for furnishing labor and materials for the subject project to
Pim Electric, Inc. , 2394 Mariner Square Drive, Alameda, CA 94501 , the low bidder,
in the amount of $120,489.00, and at the unit prices submitted, plus Additive
Alternate A in the amount of $10,200.00; and REQUIRE the contractor to present
surety bonds for Payment and Faithful Performance in the amounts of $130,689.00
and $130,689.00, respectively.
DIRECT the Public Works Director to prepare the contract for the project,
contingent upon approval of the Federal Aviation Administration.
AUTHORIZE the Public Works Director to sign the contract on behalf of. the Board
subject to the Director having reviewed and found sufficient all required
documents, including the contract signed by the contractor, the aforementioned
surety bonds, and a certificate of insurance.
DIRECT that, in accordance with the project specifications and/or upon the
execution of the contract by the Public Works Director, any bid bonds posted by
the bidders be exonerated and any checks or cash submitted for bid security be
returned.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
90% of the project will be funded by the Federal Aviation Administration. The
local share (10%) will be paid out of the Airport Enterprise Fund.
REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATION/BACKGROUND:
The plans and specifications were approved and the project advertised for bids by
the Board of Supervisors on August 11, 1987. The bids were received and opened
at 171 John Glenn Drive, Concord, California, on Wednesday, September 16, 1987.
The construction bids received on the base bids plus Bid Alternate A were as
follows :
1. FCB International , Oakland $143,895.00
2. Royal Electric, Sacramento $161 ,292.00
3. Rosendin Electric, San Jose $162,911.00
4. Steiny & Company, Inc. ; Vallejo $178,000.00
5. Paulson Excavating, Inc. , Albion $209,875.00
The estimated construction cost was $137,600.
