RAINEY Contra Sheriff-Coroner ,,��}�', C )sta DATE: September 25, 1987 CDuqy SUBJECT: Red Ribbon Week SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATIONS) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION REQUEST The Board of Supervisors join the State of California in proclaiming the week of October 25-31, 1987 Red Ribbon Week. Further, that the Board encourage all County departments to provide any employee wishing to support this endeavor with a red ribbon to be worn during the designated week. BACKGROUND Governor George Deukmejian has proclaimed the week of October 25-31 as Red Ribbon Week to encourage all Californians to show their support for and personal commitment to reducing drug and alcohol abuse by wearing a red ribbon on their clothing. SUGGESTED PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, Californians For Drug Free Youth, Inc. , a statewide parent/community organization, and the California Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs are co-sponsoring "Red Ribbon Week" October 25-31, 1987; and WHEREAS, schools, businesses, law enforcement, churches, hospitals, service clubs, government agencies and individuals in the State of California will demonstrate their commitment for a drug-free society by wearing and displaying red ribbons during this week-long campaign; and .WHEREAS, the County of Contra Costa further commits its resources to ensure the success of the Red Ribbon Campaign; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Supervisors of the County of Contra Costa does hereby support the Red Ribbon Campaign, and the proclamation of October 25-31, 1987, as "Red Ribbon Week" in the County of Contra Costa, and encourages its citizens to participate in drug awareness activities, making a visable statement that we are strongly committed to live a healthy life. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Board of Supervisors of the County of Contra Costa encourages all its citizens to pledge: "THE CHOICE FOR ME. . . DRUG FREE!" BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors ENCOURAGES the citizens of Contra Costa County to participate in drug awareness activities, making a visible statement that we are strongly committed to live a healthy life. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County ENCOURAGES all citizens of the County to pledge "THE CHOICE FOR ME. . . .DRUG FREE!" PASSED on October 6, 1987 by unanimous vote of the Board members present. I hereby certify that the foregoing is a true and correct copy of an order entered on the minutes of said Board of Supervisors on the date aforesaid.
