SUBJECT: Red Ribbon Week
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATIONS) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
REQUEST
The Board of Supervisors join the State of California in proclaiming
the week of October 25-31, 1987 Red Ribbon Week. Further, that the Board
encourage all County departments to provide any employee wishing to support
this endeavor with a red ribbon to be worn during the designated week.
BACKGROUND
Governor George Deukmejian has proclaimed the week of October 25-31 as
Red Ribbon Week to encourage all Californians to show their support for
and personal commitment to reducing drug and alcohol abuse by wearing a
red ribbon on their clothing.
SUGGESTED PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, Californians For Drug Free Youth, Inc. , a statewide parent/community
organization, and the California Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs are
co-sponsoring "Red Ribbon Week" October 25-31, 1987; and
WHEREAS, schools, businesses, law enforcement, churches, hospitals, service
clubs, government agencies and individuals in the State of California
will demonstrate their commitment for a drug-free society by wearing and
displaying red ribbons during this week-long campaign; and
.WHEREAS, the County of Contra Costa further commits its resources to
ensure the success of the Red Ribbon Campaign;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Supervisors of the
County of Contra Costa does hereby support the Red Ribbon Campaign, and
the proclamation of October 25-31, 1987, as "Red Ribbon Week" in the
County of Contra Costa, and encourages its citizens to participate in
drug awareness activities, making a visable statement that we are
strongly committed to live a healthy life.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Board of Supervisors of the County of
Contra Costa encourages all its citizens to pledge: "THE CHOICE FOR ME. . .
DRUG FREE!"

WHEREAS Californians for Drug Free Youth, Inc. , a

WHEREAS the County of Contra Costa further commits its

Supervisors of Contra Costa County does hereby SUPPORT the Red
Ribbon Campaign, and PROCLAIMS the week of October 25-31, 1987 as
Red Ribbon Week in Contra Costa County.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors
ENCOURAGES the citizens of Contra Costa County to participate in
drug awareness activities, making a visible statement that we are
strongly committed to live a healthy life.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of
Contra Costa County ENCOURAGES all citizens of the County to
pledge "THE CHOICE FOR ME. . . .DRUG FREE!"
PASSED on October 6, 1987 by unanimous vote of the
Board members present.
I hereby certify that the foregoing is a true and

Supervisors on the date aforesaid.
