ESTABLISHMENT OF CONTAINMENT AND CLEAN-UP COORDINATING
SUBJECT: COMMITTEE
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION(S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
RECOMMENDED ACTION: To establish the county Containment and
Cleanup Coordinating Committee to monitor test results and cleanup
efforts at the old IT hazardous waste dump site in Antioch.
Representation on the committee should include:
Supervisor Tom Torlakson
Supervisor Sunne Wright McPeak
A representative of the Antioch City Council
An Antioch citizen
•A representative of the Hazardous Materials Task Force
A technical advisory committee should include a staff member from
the following agencies:
County Public Health
County Environmental Health
State Fish & Game Department
State Health Department*
Bay Area Air Pollution Control Board
Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board
It would be essential to also have the land owners of the GBF site
and company representatives of the IT Corporation present at committee
deliberations.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Tremendous concern has been expressed by
the community regarding the reported leaking into the groundwater of
toxic materials at the Industrial Tank/GBF dump- site. This matter has
been referred to the Health Department and the Health Department will
be reporting to the Board of Supervisors on the status of the
situation at next week' s Board meeting (January 27, 1987) .
