MICHAEL WALFORD, PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR DATE: January 20, 1987 SUBJECT: Approve Contract Change Order No. 2 for the Zander Drive Slide Repair, Project No. 0671-6R6735-83, Orinda Area. Specific Request(s) or Recommendation(s) & Background & Justification RECOMMENDED ACTION: APPROVE Contract Change Order No. 2 and AUTHORIZE the Public Works Director to execute it in order to compensate the contractor, William P. Young, Inc. , for work resulting from design change. FINANCIAL IMPACT: The project contingency funds are sufficient to cover the change order costs. REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATION/BACKGROUND: The cumulative total of this and the previous contract change order exceeds $25,000, requiring Board approval . Design changes were necessitated due to unexpected underground field conditions which required additional work and increases in certain contract bid items. CONSEQUENCES OF NEGATIVE ACTION: The lack of approval would preclude the payment to the contractor for the work required for the successful completion of the contract.
