DATE'. County
Development Conditions to Mitigate
SUBJECT: Child Care Needs
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION(S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
\RECOMMENDATIONS:
1 . Refer this item to a special committee consisting of
Supervisors Fanden and McPeak to follow this item until an
Ordinance is ready for presentation to the Board of
Supervisors.
2 . Request the Director of Community Development to present a
draft ordinance on this subject to the special committee on
February 9, 1987 .
3 . Remove this item as a referral to the 1986 Internal
Operations Committee.
BACKGROUND:
The 1986 Internal Operations Committee has been working closely
with the Community Development Department on an ordinance which
would require that new residential developments and commercial
developments either pay a fee toward mitigating the child care
needs generated by the development, or make provision for other
alternative ways of meeting the increased child care needs. The
Community Development Department has not been able to complete
work on a draft ordinance. Since Supervisors Fanden and McPeak
represent the Board on the Child Care Task Force, we would like
to continue to follow this item for a few weeks until an
ordinance is ready to present to the County Planning Commission
and the Board of Supervisors. We are, therefore, making the
above recommendations.
