ATTESTED: January 13 , 1987 PHit_ BATCEHELCC3, C!ank of the Board of Supervisors and County Administrator By , Deputy NOV - 7 1986 SOCIAL SERVICE DEPARTMENT CONTRA COSTA COUNTY TO: Phil Batchelor, County Administrator November 4 , 1986 FROM: Robert ornlin, Director SUBS: CONT COSTA COUNTY'S INCOME MAINTENANCE ERROR RATE LEVEL In response to your request that we furnish you with a report on Contra Costa County' s Income Maintenance error rate level for presentation before the Board of Supervisors, we attach the latest information available from the State regarding error rate levels in AFDC, Food Stamps, and Medi-Cal Programs. As you will note, we have maintained an acceptable error rate level since 1984 in AFDC and Medi-Cal. In Food Stamps we have struggled to lower the error rate, and in 1985, we were just . 4a over the tolerance level. We also attach a copy of a letter of commendation received from Linda McMahon, Director of the State Department of Social Services. In an effort to maintain low error rates in the Income Maintenance Programs administered by the Social Service Department, it was decided several years ago to establish corrective action committees in each district office. These committees send representatives to a Central Corrective Action Committee and, in this way, each office has input into the identification and correction of errors. In these Corrective Action Committees, the Department has brought together managers, eligibility staff, clerical staff, and representatives from the computer system group. There is a real team effort involved in maintaining a low error rate in Contra Costa County, and recognition must be given to all of our workers. At the Central Corrective Action Committee difficult issues, ones which could not be resolved at the district level, are agendaed so that managers and workers county-wide can look at the problems and 'seek solutions. New ideas are tested in one or two districts and implemented county-wide if it does resolve a given problem.
