position #54-2262, Salary Level TA 1194 (1968-2921 ) .
Amend Resolution 71/17 establishing positions and resolutions allocating classes to the
Basic/Exempt Salary Schedule, as described above.
Effective: day following Board action.

Mental Health Treatment Specialist East County Mental Health Clinics
40% I . Treats seriously disturbed families and children .
Most of these cases require consultations with school
staff ; many require consultation with Protective Services
and Placement Services . Testimony in court is required
sometirft6s .
2 . 5% II . Consults to 'other staff members about treatment of children
and families .
Miss Wierda is the most experienced child therapist in the
East County Clinics ; all child therapists seek her advice .

This is the executive committee for the East County

The camp lasts five days . 6 hours a week for nine weeks
in June , July and August . ( I am averaging this out to
2 hours a week over the year) .

10% VI . Program Specialist: Child Abuse Treatment Coordinator .
A . Provides consultation and training to all clinic staff
on issues of child abuse . This includes evaluation
of the alleged abuse, collaboration and Protective
Services , Police, Medical Services and interpretation
of laws governing the reporting" abuse .
5% B . Teaches methods of treatment of abused children and their
parents to treatment staff .
5% C . Maintains an updated file of the applicable Penal Code
sections and other laws and regulations which pertain to
child abuse .
Developes procedural guides and other materials ,to assist
mental health staff in understanding their legal
responsibilities in matters of child 4buse .
15% D . Developes and strengthens the services for abused-
children and there fatilies .
1 . Advises the Director of Children ' s ' Services about
problems . in implementing existing laws , needs for
new legislation, needs for added services , changes
in the patterns of collaboration between related
services (e .g . in-patient , contract services ,
juvenile detention facilities) .
2 . At'". the direction of the Director of Children ' s
Services and with the concurrence of the Regional
Director advocates for change in laws , policies and
I procedures .

applications in the area of child abuse preven-
tion and treatment .
4 . Maintains a working relationship with voluntary
agencies in the field of child abuse such as
Contra Costa Children ' s Council , Contra Costa
Child Abuse Prevention Council , Rape Crisis
Services and Contra Costa Coalition for
f Children and Youths .
i * This directofship involves the intensive treatment of
severely disturbed children , directing a team of three
or four paid staff members and about six volunteer
counselors ; further the procurement of horses , equipment.
