Progen to Contra Costa ) RESOLUTION NO. 87/535 County and the Contra Costa ) County Redevelopment Agency ) WHEREAS, Thomas A. Progen was born on May 6, 1947 in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, attended the University of Massachusetts in Amherst where he received his bachelor' s degree and also attended the Southwestern University School of Law in Los Angeles; and WHEREAS, Thomas A. Progen served four years in the United States Marine Corps, including a tour of duty in Southeast Asia; and WHEREAS, Thomas A. Progen married Sandy Orr in February, 1981 and on February 20, 1983 was blessed with a daughter, Lindsey Rebecca; and WHEREAS, Thomas A. Progen spent 8 1/2 years with the City of Torrance Planning Department and the Torrance Redevelopment Agency in Southern California; and WHEREAS, on February 11, 1985, Thomas A. Progen became Contra Costa County' s first Redevelopment Director; and WHEREAS, on January 24, 1987, Contra Costa County mourned the untimely death of Thomas A. Progen; and WHEREAS, Thomas A. Progen was a man of high professional standards, with a deep love for his family and friends, a man who was well respected by all who knew and worked with him; and WHEREAS, Thomas A. Progen was able, through patience, understanding, and respect for those with whom he worked, to negotiate the Agreements and property transfers necessary to make the Pleasant Hill BART Redevelopment Project a success; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED it is the desire of the Board of Supervisors the Redevelopment Agency, and the business community with whom Thomas A. Progen worked to perpetuate his friendship, his accomplishments and his memory through the dedication of a Plaza in his name in the Pleasant Hill BART Station Redevelopment Project Area. Passed and adopted by unanimous vote of the Board/Agency members present on this 8th day of September, 1987 .
