HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 02271990 - 90/128IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA Adol)led Ilils Order on February 27, 1990 by the following vote: AYES: Supervisors Powers , Schroder, McPeak, Torlakson and Fanden NOES: None ABSENT: None ABSTAIN: None Resolution 90/128 SUBJECT: Designating March 7, 1990 as Arbor Day WHEREAS, California designated March 7th as Bird and Arbor Day in 1915 commemorating the birth of Luther Burbank, the great California botanist; and WHEREAS, it is the purpose of this day to encourage the planting of trees in urban forests and wildland areas, to encourage appreciation, protection, renewal and sound management of our forests, and to encourage a healthy ecosystem; and WHEREAS, trees and shrubs improve the quality of urban environments by preventing erosion, by controlling the wind, by reducing noise and air pollution, by contributing major quantities of precipitation for ground water recharge through fog drip and by enhancing the aesthetic quality of life; and WHEREAS, through the cooperation of all the residents of the County of Contra Costa, California, in Arbor Day activities and in its principles throughout the year, we can pass on an enduring heritage of vital natural resources to succeeding generations; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County joins with other organizations and governmental agencies in designating March 7th as Arbor Day; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the Board transmit copies of this resolution to California Releaf, at the Trust for Public Land, for appropriate .acknowledgement and distribution.
